WHAT WE BELIEVE

The Bible

We believe in the absolute authority, accuracy and inerrancy of the 66 books of the Bible; its full verbal inspiration of the original manuscripts and its all-sufficiency and final authority as the Christian’s rule of faith and practice.

(Proverbs 30:5; Isaiah 40:8; II Timothy 3:16-17; II Peter 1:19-21)

God

We believe that there is one God, the Creator, Preserver and Ruler of all things, who is perfect in holiness and love, infinite in wisdom and measureless in power, and who reveals Himself to us as three distinct persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

(Deuteronomy 6:4; Nehemiah 9:6; I Chronicles 29:11-12; Exodus 15:11; I John 4:8; Matthew 28:19)

Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.  We believe that He is true God and true man and is the only mediator between God and mankind.

(Matthew 1:20; Luke 1:35; John 1:1, 12-14; John 12:45; 14:9; I Timothy 2:5)

The Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit is a Divine Person, equal with the Father and the Son, and of the same substance and nature. He convicts of sin, righteousness and judgment. He bears witness to the church. He is the agent of the new birth and at the moment of our conversion, He baptizes every believer into the Body of Christ. He seals, empowers, guides, teaches, affirms, sanctifies and helps each believer. He indwells every true child of God.

(John 16:8-11; John 3:3-7; Ephesians 1:13; II Corinthians 13:14; John 14:16-17, Romans 8:14-27; I Corinthians 12:12- 13)

Humankind

We believe that humans were created in the image of God by direct creation and that they were originally in fellowship and communication with God. By human choice they sinned, breaking this fellowship, and incurred both physical and spiritual death. Thus, all humankind by nature and by choice are sinners and unable of their own selves to re-establish fellowship with God. Apart from Christ all individuals shall be forever separated from God. We further believe that God created men and women unique and separate and that humans are sexually dimorphic beings and that these differences in sex are essential to our full representation of the image of God. As such, we believe one’s biology, not their internal sense of self, determines his or her sex/gender. Although we disagree with our trans friends on this point, it does not mean we do not love them. Accordingly, we treat them with the love and respect they deserve.

(Genesis 1:26; Ezekiel 18:20; Romans 3:23; Titus 3:5; Ephesians 2:8,9; Romans 6:23)

Justification - God's Declaration of Our Forgiveness

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures. We believe that He represented us and was our substitutionary sacrifice, that He died in our place.  Any person who trusts in what He did are justified on the grounds of His shed blood.

(I Corinthians 15:3-4; Revelation 1:5)

Salvation

We believe that salvation is by grace through faith alone. It is not based on our ‘works’ (what we have done) and that all who receive by faith the Lord Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior are born again of the Holy Spirit, thereby becoming children of God. We believe in the eternal security of the believer.

(Ephesians 2:8-9; John 1:12; 3:3-7; 10:27-29; Romans 8:14-17)

Resurrection of Jesus

We believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Savior, Jesus. We believe that He ascended into heaven and in His present ministry there for us as our High Priest and Intercessor.

(Romans 1:4; 1 Corinthians 15:3-8)

Resurrection of People

We believe in the resurrection of the bodies of every human being. Those who have received God’s grace and salvation through Jesus’ atonement will spend eternity with God. Those who have not will spend eternity separated from Him.

(1 Corinthians 15:20-24; Revelation 20:12-15; II Corinthians 5:8)

Local Church and Baptism

We believe that the local church is the expression of the Body of Christ. It is a voluntary association of baptized believers equal in rank and privilege, subject to the Word of God, and independent of any external ecclesiastical control. We believe that Jesus taught believers to identify with Him by being baptized (immersed) in water. Although baptism doesn’t actually save us, it does demonstrate each believer’s faith in and union with the crucified, buried, and risen Savior, Jesus.

(Matthew 28:19; Acts 2:41; 8:38; 18:8; Romans 6:3-5)

The Lord's Supper - Communion

We believe that the Lord’s Supper is a provision of bread and the cup which are symbolical of Christ’s broken body and shed blood. Participation in the Lord’s Supper is intended for followers of Christ Jesus, to remember His suffering and death and to anticipate His return. Its purpose includes regular and honest self-examination.

(Luke 22:19-20; I Corinthians 11:23-30)

The Future

We believe in the personal, visible and imminent return of the Lord Jesus Christ for His church. We also believe in His coming in glory with believers to set up His millennial kingdom upon the earth followed by an eternal kingdom on a new heaven and earth. Those who are saved will forever be in His presence. The unsaved (those who are not His) will be eternally separated from God.

(1 Corinthians 15:4; Acts 1:9-11; Hebrews 4:14-16; I John 3:1-2; I Thessalonians 4:13-17; Revelation 19:11-16; 20:1-15; 21:1-8)
